So far so good! We recover from colds and are in excellent health. We encounter friendliness and helpfulness nearly everywhere, snooty shop clerks excluded, and my command of French comes in most handily. It's a little hard not to stress out about complicated Long Stay Visa procedures, but everyone assures us this is par for the course. We get ready to usher in a bright New Year.

We are warm and cozy in our little apartment. No Internet connection is provided, so I bundle up and trudge down every few days or so to MacDonald's, several blocks away, to check emails. We congratulate ourselves on the good fortune that brought us to Rue Mouffetard.
